Auto Angels 2010

June 18, 2010 : admin

Being a Seattle native, I’m continually amazed at the hearty nature of our fellow citizens. And this past Father’s Day weekend, under typical late spring skies (that does not equate to SUNNY – not here in the great northwest!) auto enthusiasts arrive ...

FAQs

Does the film yellow or dull over time?

The films we offer guarantee that the film will never yellow or dull. Although it’s natural for all urethane films to yellow to a very small degree; Today’s Technology in films has improved in recent years. And in most cases if a film yellows, it is only noticeable under fluorescent lighting.

How visible is the film?

The film is approximately 8mil thick (about the thickness of a 2 pieces of thin paper) the film is visible to someone that has an eye for detail. Most people passing by the car would never notice unless they knew it was on the car. And from a distance you can even see the film if you were looking for it. The headlight film is much thicker, but not thick enough to have issues in conforming to extreme curves of headlights. The headlight film is designed especially for polycarbonate (plastic) and glass headlights. Most people can?t even see the headlight film until they get up very close the headlight.

How thick is the film?

PPF film is approximately 8mil thick (about the thickness of a 2 pieces of thin paper) Headlight film is approximately 13mil or 20mil thick depending on application.

How long does it take to install a full kit?

Pre-cut kits can take anywhere from 2-3 hours on average. Custom kits vary in time and are dependent on the extent of the coverage and complexity.

How long does it take for the film to cure?

Typically the film will cure out mostly in the first 24 hours (not entirely). We usually like to play it save and say around 2-3 weeks, weather permitting. The warm weather can sometimes speed the curing times a little bit. But also can cure it too quickly, which may not allow the film to settle correctly. We prefer to have your car for the day to monitor this curing cycle for the first few hours after the install.

How do you cut your kits, do you order them?

We have a very large scale plotter that cuts them precisely. The designs are NOT ordered or downloaded from some other company. All designs are custom made in-house. All patterns are designed precisely to the vehicle application. Attention to detail in this area is critical and makes or breaks a quality installation. Most downloadable or ordered kits are designed to be easier to install and their quality of fitment is less then desirable… we choose NOT to use the generic fitment kits others use.

What is the warranty?

We offer a Limited Lifetime warrantee on the installation of the film. We guarantee that the install is to be free of product defect of bubbles, cracking and fading. Each warranty is different for each film on the film itself. But most films have excellent warrantees on the film from yellowing, peeling, dulling, etc.

I’ve heard that the clearer films are easier to install then the orange peel like films, is this true?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. Each film has its unique properties, and has its strong points in certain applications.

I don’t want to see a line across the hood; can you cover the full hood?

In most cases the whole hood or entire vehicle may be covered. But inquire about this first, and we can either tell you or take measurements to see if it is possible.

What sort of coverage do I get with PPF kits?

Depends on how extreme you want to go! Everything from full kits which have partial coverage of the hood and fenders and full bumper wraps. And then there are custom applications that may cover full hood and fenders, rockers, rear bumpers, doors or whatever else. The whole car in some cases can be covered!

What are the care instructions for PPF?

1) Please allow 2-3 weeks of curing time for your recently installed PPF film. During this time please avoid washing or waxing the vehicle as it may impede the curing process and potentially damage the film. Be aware that during this time the film will breathe out excess moisture from underneath. The curing process, when finished, will allow the adhesive to fully adhere to the vehicle. A slight haziness, small bubbles and/or lines may become apparent during this curing process, but should settle out as the moisture evaporates from the film. Also be aware that pushing and/or rubbing on the film during the curing time is not advisable as it may cause the film to cure unevenly or cause blemishes.

2) After the film has fully adhered to your vehicle, feel free to treat it like the rest of the vehicles paint. The film has the same urethane finish as your paint and should be washed and waxed accordingly. We recommend Zaino Brothers for all your car care needs. They carry a great line of synthetic long lasting waxes that leave no build-up. However, if you prefer a carnauba wax, we suggest putting a painter’s thin masking tape along the edge of the PPF film to prevent wax build up. If buildup occurs on the edge of the film, use isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip; this will remove excess wax. If light scratches occur on the surface of the material; apply isopropyl alcohol 70% to surface and massage in with a non abrasive towel or micro fiber towel for 30-60sec. wipe down excess alcohol with dry micro fiber until the surface is entirely dry.

Can I wash and wax over the PPF? When I detail my car, what can be done about the wax buildup along the edge of the film?

Yes and yes. We recommend synthetic waxes like Zaino since it doesn’t cause wax buildup, but if you choose to use Carnauba wax; Use a small 1/4inch painter’s masking tape to cover the top edge of the hood and fenders or other PPF edges. This will prevent any buildup of wax to occur.

What’s included in a PPF kit?

*In most cases?
Full kits : Hood, fenders, mirrors, door cups, door edges, and full bumper wrap*, headlights and fog lights
Standard kits : Hood fenders, mirrors, door cups, door edges, headlights and fog lights
Basic kits : Hood fenders, mirrors, door cups, door edges.
Custom kits : Varies, but usually most common contains what a full kit does, but with full hood and fender wraps.
Custom additional parts : Rocker panels, sill plates, interior pieces (carbon fiber), wings, flares, behind the rear wheels, full rear bumper wraps, rear bumper tops (loading areas, trunk lid area, dog legs, a-pillars, above the roof, fender lips etc.

Can I have custom designed PPF parts made?

Absolutely. We will work closely with you to understand the specific needs of coverage you have in mind and create something around those terms.

I have an aftermarket bumper, can this be done?

Absolutely. Everything is made in-house, so anything custom is not a problem.

I just had my car painted, how long should I wait before I cover it with PPF?

We are not a paint shop, and usually would tell you to ask your painter. But in most cases the painter will tell you the same thing. 30 days should be safe. The reason it varies is because of the paint will outgas for a period of time after a fresh paint job. This outgas vapor can cause the adhesive in PPF film to adhere to quickly. This causes problems during the install, and potentially can cause the film to nearly bond with the clear coat of the fresh paint making it very difficult to remove later on if needed. Rule of thumb, if you can smell the paint, it’s probably too fresh. If it’s soft to touch with your finger nail, it’s probably too fresh.

Why are you priced more the other stores I’ve called?

We believe to keep our prices competitive, but in reason with other products on the market. We believe you get what you pay for, and our level of quality is at the pinnacle of this industry. We don’t price match with other companies. We offer a product pricing that is commensurate with the installation quality and top notch customer service.

Is it permanent? Can it come off later if I want to remove it?

No, it’s not permanent. It can be removed if desired.

If I remove the film, will it leave a two-tone appearance to where it was and wasn’t?

As long as the uncovered portion of the paint was washed and washed accordingly and well cared for then there should be no noticeable difference between the two areas. If in case it does happen, is usually due to never waxing the car and letting dirt sit on the car for long periods of time causing a color like white to slightly discolor. This can be remedied by doing a full cut and buff detail on the car to clean the paint deeply and restoring its natural finish.

Can I install it myself?

We do not suggest installing this PPF film unless you have several years of experience, as you may find the results very disappointing. And currently we don’t sell our kit designs to anyone. But we can sell bulk film is desired.
